What The Folks

Came across 1 episode of #WhatTheFolks by #DiceMedia on #YouTube while trying to sleep the other day. And I was hooked. After the have-to-share part with friends and family - I searched for other episodes. And realized its actually a series with 2 seasons already hit.

What fun it was to watch it from Episode 1-Season 1. And not just fun! Oh My God! Every scene, every incident was sooo relatable. The common normal relationship, the subtle expressions, the sounds of laughter and argument alike!

The actors for all given characters are so well chosen - so apt for their roles. The protagonist couple is obviously adorable to the core. Initially I thought like all web series the female is leaning toward showing a bossy and mean attribute - but No.. Eisha Chopra has gelled Anita's strong feminist workaholic traits with, soft and kind daughter/wife/sisterly traits very well. Veer Rajwant Singh looks like the new eligible bachelor, young girls will be swooning on!
He not only seems to be the loving husband but the suljha hua and adorable son-in-law parents can idolize for their daughters.

The characters of the parents of both families have set up the atmosphere of the series in a super fun yet realistic way. They not only have shown the inhibitions of staying with the in-laws flawlessly but also put emphasis on how people can overcome them by making life and stuff simpler.

I super loved the fact that after a long time I watched a web-series where they have given importance to real-life meaningful relationships. Be it siblings, parents or spouse..
Also the fact, that like every other series they have not glorified the live-in, casual sex so called relationships we often get to see loads on the Internet.
As the title suggests - the whole story line revolves around Folks. Yours, Mine and normal next door folks. Not the oh-ever-so-modern-difficult-to-relate-to folks that exist only on Page 3 of the newspaper.

Irrespective of the fights and tension shown in few episodes, I was hooked and binge-watched both seasons like 2 movies.. Loved the decor, smiled at the not-so-subtle marketing of Epigamia, Pepperfry and Zoomcar and noted a few things to remember..
#JaaneDo scene with Anita and her MIL Vandana (played by Renuka Shahane) had gone viral a few months back and the words keep resonating then and now. "Don't try to make everything Perfect. Take it Easy and Let it Go!" - A reminder to self as well as all the people who are too uptight about a lot of things in life.
Another - a literal advice snuck up in a tense scene - "It's ok to not to be in love with your life partner All-The-Time" But loosing the respect is not ok. Neither for the family - nor for yourself!
I do understand the whole divorce thing or living apart thing has become way too casual these days.. but that's another thing that i couldn't let go off.. the family in the 2nd season doesn't tend to over-react on stuff. Especially the MIL's character keeps shadowing the negativity with a lot of positive vibe. Ho jaayega.. Rehne Do.. Smile! Having that attitude perhaps really makes things simpler, especially for the children :-)

The only thing I would have preferred to see a little differently were the Season Finales. I would have liked a little more closure to both episodes.. Perhaps even a hint of what is to come next.. But at the same time I feel, to keep the casual and light-hearted spirit of the series intact - it was designed to be like this.

So What are you waiting, Folks?? If haven't got a chance yet - do watch the entertaining series and let me know if you agree with me! If you don't - what you find it different?

Missing my peeps! Can't wait to have a #famjam
To My boring, sometimes khadoos, and sometimes fun family - I love You with all my Khadoospan 💗😍
